3.네 기름이 향기로워 아름답고 네 이름이 쏟은 향기름 같으므로 처녀들이 너를 사랑하는구나

술람미 여인이 솔로몬의 사랑을 노래하는 내용이 참으로 특이합니다. 우리가 일반적으로 접할 수 있는 사랑 노래와는 전적으로 다르기 때문입니다. 여자는 자신만 생각하고 위해주는 사랑에서 감동합니다. 나에게 잘해주는 사랑을 원하는 것입니다. 사랑의 내막, 이유 같은 것은 생각하지 않습니다. 그래서 잘해준다는 느낌이 없으면‘사랑이 식었다’라며 불평을 하는 것입니다. 마치 지금의 기독교인들이 하나님의 사랑을 생각하는 것과 별반 다르지 않습니다.
그런 점에서“네 기름이 향기로워 아름답고 네 이름이 쏟은 향기름 같으므로 처녀들이 너를 사랑하는구나”(3절)라는 여인의 노래는 세상의 사랑 노래와는 다른 것입니다. 아무리 남자의 사랑에 감동했다 해도 기름이 향기로워 아름답다거나 이름이 쏟은 향기름 같다는 말은 하지 않기 때문입니다.
더군다나 여자에게 사랑은 자신에게만 향해야 합니다. 사랑을 다른 여자와 공유하는 것은 있을 수 없는 일입니다. 그런데 술람미는‘처녀들이 너를 사랑하는구나’라고 말합니다. 모든 처녀가 사랑할 수밖에 없는 아름답고 존귀한 사랑이라는 것입니다. 이것은‘내가 왕의 사랑을 받는다’가 아니라 자신을 향한 왕의 사랑의 존귀함과 아름다움에 취한 것이라고 할 수 있습니다.
우리가 하나님의 사랑을 말할 때 잘못하는 것은 하나님이 나를 사랑하시는 것에 초점을 두는 것입니다. 그리고 하나님의 사랑을 확인하려고 합니다. 그 기준은 육신이 잘되고 평안을 누리는 것입니다. 하나님의 사랑을 보이는 것으로 확인하는 것입니다. 그런데 그것이 하나님의 사랑에 대한 감동과 기쁨의 세계로 나아가지 못하는 이유가 된다는 것을 잊지 않아야 합니다.
요일 4:9-10절에 보면 “하나님의 사랑이 우리에게 이렇게 나타난 바 되었으니 하나님이 자기의 독생자를 세상에 보내심은 그로 말미암아 우리를 살리려 하심이라 사랑은 여기 있으니 우리가 하나님을 사랑한 것이 아니요 하나님이 우리를 사랑하사 우리 죄를 속하기 위하여 화목 제물로 그 아들을 보내셨음이라”고 말합니다.
하나님의 사랑은 아들을 화목제물로 보내시고 우리 죄를 대신하여 십자가에 죽게 하시는 것으로 나타났고 확증되었습니다. 세상에서의 일이 잘되고 평안을 누리는 것이 사랑의 증표가 아니라는 것입니다. 그런데도 만약 육신을 바라보며 사랑의 여부를 확인하고자 한다면 그 사랑은 수시로 변하게 됩니다. 우리의 형편은 늘 달라지기 때문입니다.
하지만 십자가로 나타난 사랑은 변하지 않습니다. 십자가는 완성의 세계이고 십자가로 나타나고 확증된 사랑도 완성 안에서 변하지 않기 때문입니다. 그래서 사랑받은 자는 십자가로 확증된 사랑의 내막 안에서 그 사랑의 향기와 아름다움에 취하고 노래하게 되는 것입니다.
우리의 모든 활동은 나의 가치를 높이는 것으로 집중되어 있습니다. 하나님의 사랑도‘사랑받은 나’를 부각함으로써 하나님과의 관계를 증명하고 그것으로 자기 가치를 높이는 것이고 활용해 버립니다. 이것은 사랑이 좋은 것이 아니라 사랑을 받는 자신을 좋아하는 것일 뿐입니다.
4절에 보면“왕이 나를 그의 방으로 이끌어 들이시니 너는 나를 인도하라 우리가 너를 따라 달려가리라 우리가 너로 말미암아 기뻐하며 즐거워하니 네 사랑이 포도주보다 더 진함이라 처녀들이 너를 사랑함이 마땅하니라”고 말합니다.
왕의 사랑이 아니라면 술람미는 왕의 방으로 인도될 수 없는 신분입니다. 그런데 왕의 사랑을 받은 신부라는 그것 하나만으로 예전의 모든 신분이나 조건을 초월하여 왕을 위해 세워진 왕궁으로 인도되어 왕과 함께 하는 놀라운 혜택을 누리게 된 것입니다. 이것이 우리가 신랑이신 예수 그리스도의 신부로 천국으로 인도되어 예수님과 함께 하는 은혜를 누리는 이유입니다.
왕과 여인의 관계는 오직 사랑으로만 연결되어 있습니다. 왕이 여인에게 요구하는 것은 없습니다. 여인에게 왕이 사랑할만한 조건이 있어서도 아닙니다. 5절에서 자신을 검으나 아름답다고 하고 게달의 장막 같을지라도 솔로몬의 휘장 같다고 하는 것도 자신이 아름다워서 사랑을 받는다는 것이 아니라 사랑이 자신을 아름다운 자로 여김을 받게 한다는 뜻입니다.
그러면 왕의 사랑을 받고 그 사랑의 아름다움을 노래하는 여인도 변함없이 왕을 사랑하였을까요? 아 5장에 보면 사랑하는 자가 문을 두드리는데 여인이 옷을 벗고 발을 씻었다는 이유로 문을 열기를 망설이다가 여는 내용이 있습니다. 사랑하는 자가 아닌 자기 몸이 더 중요했던 것입니다. 이것이 여인을 통해 드러나는 우리의 현실입니다.
우리의 욕구는 항상 내 몸으로 향해있습니다. 이것은 누구도 부인할 수 없습니다. 이런 우리를 찾아온 것이 사랑입니다. 예수님이 사랑으로 찾아오셔서 우리를 포기하지 않고 이끌어 가시기 때문에 우리가 생명, 구원, 천국이라는 말을 할 수 있게 되는 것입니다. 그래서 사랑하는 이유는 하나님께 있고 하나님에게서 찾아야 하는 것이지 우리에게서 찾을 문제가 아닙니다. 하나님의 사랑을 받기 위한 노력이라는 것도 인간의 허망한 욕구일 뿐입니다.
여인에게 왕의 사랑은 당연한 것이 아닙니다. 왕으로서 자신을 낮추고 희생하는 사랑이었습니다. 이것을 자신의 온몸을 부수고 짜내므로 나오는 기름으로 말한 것입니다. 왕의 이름을 부를 때도 다른 요구는 없습니다. 자신을 사랑하는 사랑이 전부이고 그것으로 모든 것을 받은 것이기 때문입니다. 그래서 이름만으로도 향기롭다고 하는 것입니다.
우리에게 사랑은 그리스도입니다. 십자가에서 피 흘리신 그리스도의 사랑으로 우리가 구원을 얻은 것입니다. 제자들처럼 예수님을 부인하고 도망치는 우리를 포기하지 않으시고 끝까지 찾아오신 사랑이 우리에게 구원이 된 것입니다. 우리가 예수님을 택하여 사랑한 것이 아니라 예수님이 도무지 사랑받을 수 없는 우리를 택하여 사랑하신 것입니다.
그래서 진심으로 사랑을 받고 사랑을 아는 사람은 자신을 꾸미려고 하지 않습니다. 자신을 보기 좋게 꾸며서 남들보다 더 사랑받는 자가 되겠다는 발상을 끄집어내지 않습니다. 그것이야말로 사랑을 멸시하는 것입니다. 사랑하는 이유는 우리에게 있지 않기 때문입니다.
사랑받는 자는 신랑이신 주의 사랑 안에서 구원의 완성을 믿으며 ‘주의 사랑이 참으로 놀랍습니다’라는 고백을 하게 될 뿐입니다. 그것이 성령을 받은 신자의 사랑 노래입니다. 주의 사랑은 내가 예쁘지 않아도 되는 사랑이고, 검어서 못생겨도 괜찮은 사랑입니다. 아름다운 주의 사랑 안에서 아름다운 자로 여김 받기 때문입니다. 이것이 십자가로 확증된 주의 사랑의 세계입니다.

The Reason To Love
Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee. (Song of Songs 1:3 KJV)

The story of a Shulamite woman singing Solomon’s love is very peculiar. This is because it is entirely different from the love songs we usually encounter. Women are impressed by the love they give and think only for themselves. We want love that is good to ourselves. We wouldn’t think about the behind story or reasons of love. Thus, if one doesn’t feel the other is doing well for oneself, one would immediately complain about it. It is no different from what Christians today think of God's love.
In that respect, the woman's song, “Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee” (v. 3) is different from the love song of the world. No matter how much a man's love is impressed, one doesn't say that the oil is fragrant and beautiful, or that it is like the scent of the name.
Moreover, for a woman, love should be directed only to herself. It is impossible to share love with another woman. However, Sulammi says, 'the virgins love you.’ It is that the king is a beautiful and honorable love that every virgin must love. It can be said that this is not ‘I am loved by the king', but rather because of the dignity and beauty of the king's love for her.
What we do wrong when we talk about God's love is to focus on the fact that God loves ‘me.’ And we want to confirm God's love. The standard is to be well in the body and to enjoy peace. It is to confirm God's love by having tangible matters. However, we must not forget that this is the reason why we cannot go forward to the world of joy and happiness for God's love.
In 1 John 4:9-10, we read, “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
God's love has been shown and confirmed as sending His Son as a peace offering and putting Him on the cross for our sins. It is that what goes well in the world and enjoys peace is not a sign of love. Nevertheless, if you look at ourselves and want to check whether it is love, that love will change from time to time because our circumstances are always different.
However, the love shown by the cross does not change. This is because the cross is the world of perfection, and the love that appears on the cross and affirmed does not change in that perfection. That is why the loved ones become drunk and come to sing in the fragrance and beauty of love within the core of love confirmed by the cross.
All of our activities are focused on enhancing our values. What’s more, we think God's love also proves a relationship with God by emphasizing on the “loved me” and uses it to increase self-worth. This is not love, it is just to love ourselves to be loved.
In Verse 4, it says, “Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.”
Without the love of the king, Sulammi is a status that cannot be led to the king's room. However, being a bride loved by the king alone, she was led to the royal palace built for the king, transcending all previous statuses and conditions, and was able to enjoy the amazing benefits of being with the king. This is why we are guided to heaven as the bride of Jesus Christ, the bridegroom, and enjoy the grace of being with Jesus.
The relationship between the king and the woman is connected only by love. There is nothing the king asks of her woman. Nor does her woman have conditions for the king to love. In verse 5, saying that she is black but beautiful and that she is like Solomon's veil, even though she is like the curtain of Kedal, does not mean that she is loved because she is beautiful, but that love makes her regard as a beautiful person.
Then, would the woman who receives the love of the king and sings of the beauty of that love still love the king? Looking in her 5th chapter, a loved one knocks on her door, and she hesitates to open her door because the woman took off her clothes and washed her feet, and then she wouldn’t open it. Her body was more important than her loved one. This is our reality revealed through her.
Our desires are always directed towards our flesh. This is an undeniable fact. It is the love that has come to such people like us in such manner. Because Jesus comes with love and leads us without giving up, we can say the eternal life, salvation, and heaven. So, the reason to love is in God and that we have to look for in God, not a problem to look for in us. Efforts to receive God's love are nothing but vain desires of mankind.
For a woman, the king's love is not natural. It was a love that humbles and sacrifices himself as a king. This is referred to as the oil that comes out of crushing and squeezing one's body. There are also no other demands when calling the king's name because loving him is everything and she received everything from it. That's why the name alone is said to be fragrant.
For us, love is Christ. We are saved by the love of Christ shedding the blood on the cross. Like the disciples, the love that came to us to the end even though we deny Him and run away from Him became our salvation. We didn't choose and love Jesus, but Jesus chose and loved us who could never be loved.
That is why those who are truly loved and who know love do not try to decorate themselves. They don't come up with the idea of becoming more loved than others by decorating themselves. Such is the fact that the love is despised. The reason we love Him is not on us.
Those who are loved only believe in the completion of salvation in the love of the bridegroom, and only confess that the love of the Lord is truly amazing. That is the love song of a believer who has received the Holy Spirit. The love of the Lord is a love that we do not have to be beautiful, and it is a love that is okay to be ugly because in the love of the beautiful Lord, we are regarded as beautiful. This is the world of the Lord's love, confirmed by the cross!
