19.또 성막 위에 막을 펴고 그 위에 덮개를 덮으니 여호와께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 되니라
20.그는 또 증거판을 궤 속에 넣고 채를 궤에 꿰고 속죄소를 궤 위에 두고
21.또 그 궤를 성막에 들여놓고 가리개 휘장을 늘어뜨려 그 증거궤를 가리니 여호와께서 모세에게 명령하신 대로 되니라
<설교>
하나님이 이스라엘을 애굽에서 인도하여 내신 이야기가 출애굽기입니다. 그런데 이상한 것은 이스라엘을 애굽에서 나오게 하신 하나님의 작업이 출애굽기 초반에 이루어진다는 것입니다. 사실 출애굽기라는 제목에 어울리는 줄거리는 마지막 부분에서 이스라엘의 애굽 탈출이 완성되고 출애굽 한 이스라엘을 하나님이 약속하신 땅에 들어가게 해서 자손 대대로 행복하게 잘 살게 하셨다는 것으로 결말지어지는 것이라고 할 수 있습니다. 그런데 그런 모든 상상과 기대를 헛된 것으로 무너뜨리는 것이 출애굽기입니다.
애굽에서 나온 이스라엘을 기다린 것은 광야라는 힘들고 어려운 삶의 환경이었습니다. 이스라엘은 하나님의 함께 하심과 인도하심이 그런 식으로 펼쳐질 것이라고는 전혀 생각하지 못했습니다. 그렇게 미래에 대한 모든 기대와 희망이 무너진 자리에서 원망과 불평을 드러내었던 것이고 그것으로 인간의 사고방식으로는 결코 하나님의 일하심을 받아들일 수 없다는 사실이 선명하게 드러난 것입니다. 이것이 출애굽에 담긴 하나님의 의도라고 할 수 있습니다.
출애굽기는 성막을 세우는 것으로 끝납니다. 이제 이스라엘은 애굽에서는 없었던 성막이 함께 하는 새로운 삶이 시작되는 것입니다. 그러면 이스라엘을 애굽에서 그대로 살게 하고 성막만 만들라고 하시면 안 되는 것일까요? 그리고 제사장을 세우시고 어린양을 제물로 바쳐 제사하게 하시면 되지 않을까요? 하지만 그것은 애굽의 것을 포기하지 않고 성막을 통해 구원도 이루겠다는 인간 본연의 욕구에 의한 헛된 상상에 지나지 않는 것입니다.
이스라엘이 애굽에서 고통의 삶을 살았을 때 그들이 원하고 꿈꾸는 것은 무엇이었을까요? 애굽사람들을 바라보며 그들을 부러워하고 애굽의 것을 마음껏 누리는 풍족한 삶이었을 것입니다. 그러한 애굽에서 나오게 하신 것은 이제는 애굽이 목표가 아닌 새로운 길로 가게 하겠다는 것이며 그것을 성막으로 보여주신 것입니다. 성막이 이스라엘의 새로움으로 세워진 것입니다.
그리고 그 새로움은 9절에서“또 관유를 가져다가 성막과 그 안에 있는 모든 것에 발라 그것과 그 모든 기구를 거룩하게 하라 그것이 거룩하리라”고 말씀하는 것처럼 거룩함이라고 할 수 있습니다.
17절에 보면 “둘째 해 첫째 달 곧 그 달 초하루에 성막을 세우니라”라고 말합니다.
둘째 해라는 것은 이스라엘이 애굽에서 나온지 이 년이 되는 해라는 뜻입니다. 그리고 첫째 달 초하루는 하나님이 이스라엘을 애굽에서 나오게 한 달을 말하는데, 이 달은 1월이 아닌 3월에 해당하는 아빕월입니다(출 13:4). 애굽에서의 삶은 지워지고 어린양의 피로 죽음에서 구원받은 이스라엘로 새롭게 시작하라는 뜻의 첫째 달 초하루에 성막을 세운 것입니다.
성막은 하나님이 계시는 거룩한 장소로 이해하지만 단지 하나님이 계실 장소가 아니라 거룩하신 하나님이 이스라엘을 만나주기 위한 곳으로 세워진 것입니다. 따라서 이스라엘은 성막을 통해서 거룩하신 하나님이 이스라엘과 함께하시고 동행하시는 관계로 새롭게 시작하게 되는 것입니다. 그리고 거룩하신 하나님과의 관계가 어린양의 피로 이루어졌음을 성막으로 나타내시는 것입니다.
33,35절을 보면 “구름이 회막에 덮이고 여호와의 영광이 성막에 충만하매 모세가 회막에 들어갈 수 없었으니 이는 구름이 회막 위에 덮이고 여호와의 영광이 성막에 충만함이었으며”라고 말합니다.
모세가 성막 세우는 일을 다 마쳤을 때 여호와의 영광이 성막에 충만하였다는 것은 성막 안과 밖이 구별되고 있음을 보여주는 것입니다. 이것은 성막 밖에서 이스라엘이 무엇을 한다 해도 여호와의 영광과 무관하다는 뜻입니다. 기도하고 말씀을 묵상하며 선하게 행동한다 해도 여호와께 영광이 되지 못합니다. 오직 성막만이 영광이 될 뿐입니다. 이것을 보여주는 것이 성막에 충만한 여호와의 영광입니다.
이것이 무엇을 의미하는 것일까요? 성막에는 인간의 의가 없습니다. 흠 없는 제물이 인간의 죄로 인해 흘리는 피가 있을 뿐이고 그로 인해 하나님의 용서하심과 자비가 증거되는 거룩한 희생만 있을 뿐입니다. 오직 그것만이 여호와께 영광이 된다는 것입니다. 이처럼 성막이 세워지고 성막에 여호와의 영광이 충만한 이야기로 지금의 한국교회의 무지와 잘못됨이 드러나는 것입니다.
성막에 영광이 충만하다는 것은 십자가에서 이루신 예수님의 행하심, 즉 우리의 죄를 대신하여 죽으신 의로움만이 하나님께 영광이 된다는 뜻입니다. 따라서 죄인 된 우리의 영광, 거룩은 예수님의 행함으로 이루어진 십자가의 의로움 안에서 가능한 것이지 인간의 행함으로는 절대로 하나님의 영광이 될 수 없는 것입니다.
그런데 교회가 외치는 것은‘하나님께 영광이 되자’는 것입니다. 인간의 선함과 의로움으로 열심으로 영광을 돌리는 인간이 되자는 것입니다. 이것이 성막 밖에서 자기의 목표를 세우고 그것을 하나님을 향한 선한 열심으로 착각하는 인간의 오류이며 저주의 모습인 것입니다. 왜냐하면 하나님이 듯을 세우시고 그 뜻을 하나님이 이루신다는 약속에 부합되지 않기 때문입니다.
성막이 세워지면서 반복되는 말은 여호와께서 명령하신 대로 되었다는 것입니다. 본문에서도“명령하신 대로 되니라”는 말이 반복됩니다. 여호와의 명령대로 된 상태가 여호와의 영광이라는 것입니다. 이것으로 이스라엘의 장막에 영광이 없는 이유가 명확해집니다. 이스라엘은 어느 곳도 여호와의 명령대로 존재하지 않기 때문입니다. 하나님의 말씀을 이룰 자가 아니라는 것입니다. 이 모든 것을 알게 된다면 유일한 희망은 하나님의 모든 말씀을 온전히 이루실 자로 오실 메시아라는 사실이 명확해집니다. 이렇게 십자가는 구약의 완성이 되는 것입니다.
그런 점에서 보면 유대인이 예수가 메시아인 것을 알지 못한 것은 그들이 성막의 의미를 알지 못하고 모세오경도 율법도 알지 못했다는 증거로 드러난다는 것을 알 수 있습니다. 성막에 충만한 여호와의 영광을 단지 성막이란 건물의 거룩함을 나타내는 것으로만 받아들인 것입니다.
첫째달 초하루에 성막이 세워진 것은 이스라엘이 세상의 힘에서 벗어나 어린양 희생의 피가 능력이 되고 존재하는 새로운 존재로 출발함을 의미합니다.
그리고 이것은 고후 6:16절에서 말한 우리가 살아계신 하나님의 성전이라는 것과 연결됩니다. 어린양의 피 앞에서 죄인 됨을 고백하며 나의 죄를 대신하여 피 흘리신 은혜로 오늘의 내가 존재하게 됨을 고백하게 되는 것이 하나님의 거룩한 성전이라는 것입니다. 출애굽기의 마지막은 성막 위에 구름과 불이 있음을 이스라엘이 보는 것으로 끝납니다. 그처럼 우리가 삶의 행진을 하면서 봐야 할 것은 성막에서 행해지는 희생의 일입니다
Chapter 153
The Tabernacle Was Reared Up
And it came to pass in the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was reared up.
And Moses reared up the tabernacle, and fastened his sockets, and set up the boards thereof, and put in the bars thereof, and reared up his pillars.
And he spread abroad the tent over the tabernacle, and put the covering of the tent above upon it; as the LORD commanded Moses.
And he took and put the testimony into the ark, and set the staves on the ark, and put the mercy seat above upon the ark:
And he brought the ark into the tabernacle, and set up the vail of the covering, and covered the ark of the testimony; as the LORD commanded Moses. (Exodus 40:17-21 KJV)

Exodus is the story of God bringing Israel out of Egypt. What is strange, however, is that God's work that brought Israel out of Egypt is done at the beginning of Exodus. In fact, it can be said that the plot that fits the title of Exodus is that in the last part, Israel's escape from Egypt was completed, and the exodus of Israel was brought into the promised land by God so that they could live happily for generations to come. But it is Exodus that destroys all such imaginations and expectations with vain.
Waiting for Israel from Egypt was a difficult life environment in the wilderness. Israel had no idea that God's presence and guidance would unfold that way. In such a way, when all expectations and hopes for the future collapsed, they showed resentment and complaining, and it was clearly revealed that human mindsets could never accept God's work. This can be said to be God's intention contained in the Exodus.
Exodus ends with the establishment of the tabernacle. Now Israel is beginning a new life with the tabernacle that did not exist in Egypt. Then, shouldn't we be told to let Israel live as it was in Egypt and make only the tabernacle there? And why wouldn’t they set up a priest and let the lamb sacrificed as a sacrifice? However, it is nothing more than a vain imagination based on human desire to achieve salvation through the tabernacle without giving up the things of Egypt.
When Israel lived a life of suffering in Egypt, what did they want and dream about? It would have been an affluent life to look at the Egyptians, envy them, and fully wish to enjoy their life style. What made them out of Egypt is that they would now go on a new path, not the goal of being in Egypt for better life, shown in the tabernacle. It was built with the newness of Israel.
And that newness can be said to be holiness, as Verse 9 says, "And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is therein, and shalt hallow it, and all the vessels thereof: and it shall be holy.”
In Verse 17, it says, "And it came to pass in the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was reared up.”
The second year means that it has been two years since Israel came out of Egypt. And the first day of the first month refers to the month in which God brought Israel out of Egypt, which is the month of Abib, which corresponds to March instead of January (Ex. 13:4). Life in Egypt was erased and the tabernacle was erected on the first day of the first month, meaning to start anew with Israel, who was saved from death by the blood of the Lamb.
The tabernacle is understood as a holy place where God resides, but it is not just a place where God will exist, but a place where a holy God meets Israel. Therefore, through the tabernacle, Israel begins anew with a holy God and walking with God. And the tabernacle reveals that the relationship with the holy God was made with the blood of the Lamb.
In Verses 33 and 35, it says, "And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the hanging of the court gate. So Moses finished the work. And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.”
The fact that the tabernacle was filled with Jehovah's glory when Moses finished building the tabernacle shows that the inside and outside of the tabernacle are distinct. This means that whatever Israel does outside the tabernacle has nothing to do with God’s glory. Even if we pray, meditate on the Word, and act good, we do not glorify God. Only the tabernacle is the glory. It is the glory of God that fills the tabernacle to show this.
What does this mean? There is no human righteousness in the tabernacle. HThere is only the blood that an unblemished sacrifice sheds for our sin, and there is nothing but a holy sacrifice that testifies of God's forgiveness and mercy. Only that is the glory to God. The story of the tabernacle being erected and the glory of Jehovah in the tabernacle reveals the ignorance and faults of the modern Christianity.
When the tabernacle is full of glory, it means that only Jesus' actions on the cross, that is, the righteousness who died for our sins, will glorify God. Therefore, the glory and holiness of our sinners is possible in the righteousness of the cross made up by the actions of Jesus Christ, but by the actions of humans, it can never be the glory of God.
But what the church is shouting is'Let's be glorious to God'. It is to become a human being who glorifies with earnestness with human goodness and righteousness. This is the error and curse of human beings who set their goals outside the tabernacle and mistake it for good zeal for God. This is because it does not meet the promise that God made and He would accomplish His will.
As the tabernacle was erected, it is reiterated that it was as commanded by God. In the passage, the phrase, “it was done as he commanded”, is repeated. It is that God’s glory is what He commanded. This makes it clear why Israel's tabernacle has no glory. Because nowhere does Israel exist according to God’s command. They are not those who will fulfill the word of God. If you know all of this, it becomes clear that the only hope is the Messiah who would come to fulfill all of God's words. In this way, the cross is the completion of the Old Testament.
In this respect, it can be seen that the fact that the Jews did not know that Jesus was the Messiah was evidence that they did not know the meaning of the tabernacle, nor did they know the Pentateuch or the law. God’s glory that filled the tabernacle was only accepted as a sign of the holiness of the building.
The establishment of the tabernacle on the first day of the first month means that Israel would escape from the power of the world and start out as a new being, with the blood of the Lamb's sacrifice becoming power and existence.
And this is connected with what we are talking about in 2 Corinthians 6:16 that we are the temple of the living God. It is the holy temple of God that confesses that I am a sinner before the blood of the Lamb and that I will exist today through the grace of shed blood for my sins. The end of Exodus ends with Israel seeing clouds and fire above the tabernacle. As such, what we must see as we march in life is the work of sacrifice at the tabernacle!
