사랑에 대한 우리의 이해는 지극히 이기적이라는 사실을 잊으면 안됩니다. 하나님의 사랑을 잘 알고 믿는다는 생각을 섣불리 하지 말라는 것입니다. 예수 그리스도를 십자가에 죽게 하신 사랑을 말하면서도 그 사랑이 나에게 구원이 되었음을 붙들고 있는 것이 우리이기 때문입니다.
아들을 보내시고 십자가에서 저주받은 자로 죽게 하신 하나님의 아픔에는 관심이 없습니다. 다만 우리를 사랑하시고 구원하셨다는 것에 중점을 두면서 하나님의 사랑을 전하기 위해 이웃을 사랑해야 한다는 말을 마치 신앙인 것처럼 떠들 뿐입니다. 한마디로 말해서 우리는 하나님의 사랑에 무지한 자들입니다. 그런데도 자신이 하나님의 사랑을 잘 안다고 생각한다면 자신에게 속고 있는 것임을 알아야 합니다.
하나님의 사랑을 잘 안다면 아가서를 볼 이유는 없습니다. 아가서는 사랑받는 여인을 도구로 삼아 하나님의 사랑을 보여주는 성경이기 때문입니다. 무엇보다도 아가서의 사랑은 사랑의 대상에게서 그 어떤 조건도 보지 않는 반면에 우리는 늘 조건을 생각하고 따집니다.
우리 스스로 사랑에 합당한 조건을 만들고 그것으로 자신을 점검하기도 하면서 때로는 불안해하고 때로는 안심하기도 합니다. 사랑은 법을 이기는데도 불구하고 여전히 법으로 사랑의 관계를 확인하려는 것이 사랑을 알지 못하고 사랑에 있지 않음을 보여주는 것입니다. 그래서 아가서를 보게 되면 우리가 사랑에 무지하다는 것을 알게 되고 도무지 사랑받을 수 없는 자에게 사랑이 베풀어졌음을 깨닫고 그 사랑에 감격해하고 감사하게 되는 것입니다.
문제는 사랑이 우리에게 오셨음에도 불구하고 우리가 사랑의 확고함과 확실함에 머물지 못한다는 것입니다. 그것도 사랑을 우리가 원하는 것으로 확인하려는 것 때문입니다. 하나님의 사랑은 우리가 보고 싶어 하는 것으로 나타나지 않음을 모르는 것입니다. 사랑은 죽음이라는 인간의 현실에서 선명히 드러난다는 것을 간과하고 세상의 생존 문제로 확인하려고 하기에 불확실한 사랑으로만 느껴지는 것입니다.
6절을 보면“몰약과 유향과 상인의 여러 가지 향품으로 향내 풍기며 연기 기둥처럼 거친 들에서 오는 자가 누구인가”라고 말합니다.
사랑하는 자가 향내를 풍기며 온다면 그 향내로 사랑하는 자가 왔음을 알 수 있습니다. 하지만 향내로 사랑하는 자가 왔음을 알기 위해서는 무엇보다도 사랑하는 자의 향내가 어떤 것인가를 알고 있어야 합니다. 다시 말해서 모두가 향내를 맡고 사랑하는 자가 왔음을 알아채는 것이 아니라는 것입니다. 사랑하는 자의 향내가 누군가에게는 맡기 싫은 냄새로 다가올 수 있기 때문입니다.
연기 기둥도 어둠에서는 확실하게 드러나지 않습니다. 사랑이 거친 들에서 오는 것도 우리의 기대와 다릅니다. 우리는 사랑이 풍요와 행복으로 오기를 원하고 그것으로 자신이 사랑 안에 있음을 보여주고 싶어 하기 때문입니다. 세상 누구나 알고 부러워하는 것으로 사랑이 드러나기를 원하는 것입니다. 하지만 여기에 자리하는 것은 자기 자랑입니다. 결국 이들에게 사랑하는 자의 향내는 자기를 자랑할 수 있는 것을 손에 쥐는 것입니다.
7,8절을 보면“볼지어다 솔로몬의 가마라 이스라엘 용사 중 육십 명이 둘러쌌는데 다 칼을 잡고 싸움에 익숙한 사람들이라 밤의 두려움으로 말미암아 각기 허리에 칼을 찼느니라”라고 말합니다.
사랑하는 자, 즉 솔로몬의 가마를 칼을 잡고 싸움에 익숙한 용사 육십 명이 둘러싸고 있습니다. 이들은 밤의 두려움으로 말미암아 허리에 칼을 찼다고 합니다. 밤을 용납하지 않고 밤과 전투하기 위한 용사이고 이들이 가마를 둘러싸고 있는 것은 밤에 속한 누구도 솔로몬의 가마에 함께 하지 못하도록 지키는 것으로 생각할 수 있습니다. 마치 에덴 동산 동쪽에 그룹들과 두루 도는 불 칼을 두어 생명 나무의 길을 지키게 하는 것을 연상하게 합니다.
밤이 의미하는 것은“내가 밤에 침상에서 마음으로 사랑하는 자를 찾았노라 찾아도 찾아내지 못하였노라”(3:1)라는 말에서 드러나는 것처럼 사랑에 의해서 왕의 처소라는 있을 수 없는 곳으로 인도되었으면서도 사랑을 찾는 것입니다. 사랑에 의해 베풀어진 혜택보다는 자신이 누리고 싶은 사랑의 혜택을 찾는 것이 밤에 속한 모습인 것입니다.
여인이 왕의 침상에 있게 된 것은 당연한 일이 아닙니다. 여인에게는 그 어떤 자격이나 가치가 없기 때문입니다. 따라서 여인의 존재는 사랑이 증명하는 것이기 때문에 따로 사랑을 찾아야 할 이유가 없는 것입니다. 그런 점에서 사랑 안에 있으면서도 사랑을 찾아 헤매는 것을 밤으로 묘사하는 것입니다.
이러한 인간은 하나님의 사랑도 자기 존재를 증명하는 도구로 사용하기 때문에 자신이 사랑받았음을 자랑할 수 있는 다른 사랑을 찾는 것이고 이것이 사랑을 훼손하는 것이 됩니다. 이것이 사랑에 대한 인간의 이기적인 사고방식이며 사랑은 이러한 인간의 생각을 용납하지 않으신다는 것을 솔로몬의 가마를 용사가 둘러싸고 있는 것으로 묘사한다고 할 수 있습니다.
그리고 11절에 보면“시온의 딸들아 나와서 솔로몬 왕을 보라 혼인날 마음이 기쁠 때에 그의 어머니가 씌운 왕관이 그 머리에 있구나”라고 말합니다.
솔로몬은 혼인날 어머니가 씌운 왕관을 머리에 쓴 모습으로 등장합니다. 솔로몬의 어머니라면 밧세바를 말합니다. 왜 밧세바가 씌운 왕관으로 말할까요? 이왕이면 아버지인 다윗이 씌웠다고 하는 것이 더 왕관의 가치를 드러내는 것이 아닐까요? 여기에는 다윗과 밧세바의 관계에서 억울하게 죽임을 당한 우리아에 담긴 비밀이 있습니다.
마 1:6절을 보면“이새는 다윗 왕을 낳으니라 다윗은 우리야의 아내에게서 솔로몬을 낳고”라고 말합니다.
밧세바를 우리아의 아내로 말하는 것은 우리아를 죽인 다윗의 죄를 보여주는 것입니다. 삼하 12장에 보면 다윗과 밧세바의 사이에서 태어난 아이가 다윗의 죄로 인해 죽습니다. 그렇다면 솔로몬도 죽임을 당해야 하는데 태어난 것은 다윗의 죄로 죽임을 당한 우리아의 죽음을 보셨기 때문이라고 할 수 있습니다. 이것으로 사랑은 죄지은 자를 대신해 죽임을 당하는 것으로 오시는 것이고 이것을 솔로몬의 머리에 어머니가 왕관을 씌우는 것으로 보여주는 것입니다.
그렇다면 사랑이 왔을 때 사랑이 베풀어진 자가 인정하게 되는 것은 죽음이라는 자신의 현실입니다. 죽음의 자리에 있어야 할 자신을 왕의 처소로 이끄신 것이 사랑이라는 것에 눈을 뜨는 것이 사랑을 알고 만난 것입니다. 결국 사랑이 올 때 풍기는 향내는 죽음입니다. 대신 죽음이라는 향내를 풍기며 오는 것이 사랑이기에 이 향내로 사랑을 알아볼 사람은 죽음이라는 자기 현실을 아는 자입니다. 대신 죽으신 사랑이 우리로 하여금 신랑과의 혼인날을 맞이하게 하는 것입니다.
Chapter 11
Solomon’s Carriage
Who is this that cometh out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all powders of the merchant?
Behold his bed, which is Solomon's; threescore valiant men are about it, of the valiant of Israel.
They all hold swords, being expert in war: every man hath his sword upon his thigh because of fear in the night.
King Solomon made himself a chariot of the wood of Lebanon.
He made the pillars thereof of silver, the bottom thereof of gold, the covering of it of purple, the midst thereof being paved with love, for the daughters of Jerusalem.
Go forth, O ye daughters of Zion, and behold king Solomon with the crown wherewith his mother crowned him in the day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his heart. (Song of Songs 3:6-11 KJV)

We must not forget that our understanding of love is extremely selfish. This means that we should not be hasty in thinking that we know and believe in God's love. This is because we are the ones holding on to the love that made Jesus Christ die on the cross, but that love has saved us.
We are not interested in the pain of God, who sent His Son to die on the cross as an accursed man. We only talk about the need to love our neighbors in order to spread God's love, focusing on the fact that He loved us and saved us as if it were faith. In short, we are ignorant of God's love. Still, if we think we know God's love well, we should know that we are being deceived by ourselves.
If you know God's love well, there is no reason to read the Song of Songs. This is because the Song of Songs is the Bible that shows the love of God by using the beloved woman as a tool. Above all, while the love of the Song of Songs does not see any conditions in the object of love, we always think and question the conditions.
We create the conditions worthy of love ourselves and check ourselves with them, sometimes making us anxious and sometimes reassuring. Although love overcomes the law, still trying to confirm the relationship of love with the law is to show that we do not know love and are not in love. So, when we read the Song of Songs, we realize that we are ignorant of love, realize that love has been given to those who cannot be loved at all, and we are moved and grateful for that love.
The problem is that even though love has come to us, we do not remain in the firmness and certainty of love. And that's because we want to make sure love is what we want. We don’t know God's love is not shown by the way that we show up as we want to see. We overlook the fact that love is clearly revealed in the human reality of death, and try to confirm it as a matter of survival in the world, so it only feels like an uncertain love.
Verse 6 says, “Who is it that comes from the wild, like a pillar of smoke, scented with myrrh and frankincense and the spices of merchants?”
If a loved one comes with a scent of incense, you can know that the one you love has come. However, in order to know that the one you love has come by scent, you must first know what the scent of your loved one is. In other words, not everyone smells the incense and recognizes that the loved one has arrived. This is because the scent of a loved one can come to someone as an unpleasant smell.
The smoke plumes are also not clearly visible in the dark. It is not as we expect that love comes from the wild because we want love to come with abundance and happiness, and by it we want to show that we are in love. We want to show love through something that everyone in the world knows and envy. But being here is something to be proud of. In the end, for them, the scent of a loved one is to hold in their hands something they can be proud of.
In verses 7 and 8, it says, “Behold, Solomon’s carriage, sixty men of Israel’s mighty men surrounded him, all of them accustomed to fighting with swords, each with their swords around their waists for fear of the night.”
Sixty warriors accustomed to fighting, holding swords, surround the palanquin of the beloved, Solomon. It is said that they wore swords around their waists for fear of the night. They are warriors who do not tolerate the night and fight against the night, and the fact that they surround the carriage can be thought of as keeping anyone from the night from being with Solomon's carriage. It is reminiscent of the cherubim and a fiery sword that revolves around the east of the Garden of Eden to guard the way to the tree of life.
The night is as shown in the words, “I searched for the one I love with my heart on the bed at night, and I searched for him, but I did not find him” (3:1), meaning to find the benefits of love that she wants to enjoy rather than the benefits provided by the loved.
It is so special that a woman should be on the king's bed because she has no qualifications or worth for her to be the king. Thus, there is no reason for her to seek out love separately, because her woman's existence is what her love proves. In that sense, the night is to describe the search for love while being in love.
Since such a human being like her and us uses the love of God as a tool to prove one’s existence, she is looking for another love in which she can boast that she is loved, and this is what undermines her love. It can be said that this is our selfish way of thinking about love, and that love does not tolerate such man's thoughts, which describes Solomon's carriage as a warrior encircling it.
And in verse 11, it says, “Come out, daughters of Zion, and behold King Solomon, on his head the crown that his mother put on him when he rejoiced on the wedding day.”
Solomon appears with the crown worn by his mother on his head on the day of his wedding. Solomon's mother is Bathsheba. Why does he speak with the crown that Bathsheba wore? If possible, wouldn't it be more revealing of the value of the crown to say that his father, David, wearing Solomon the crown? Here is the secret contained in Uriah, who was unfairly killed in the relationship between David and Bathsheba.
Matthew 1:6 says, “Jesse begot David the king, and David begot Solomon by the wife of Uriah.”
To speak of Bathsheba as Uriah's wife shows David's sin in killing Uriah. In 2 Samuel 12, the child born to David and Bathsheba dies because of David's sin. If so, Solomon must also be killed, and it can be said that he was born because he saw the death of Uriah, who was slain for David's sin. By this, love comes to be slain for the sinner, and this is shown by the mother crowning Solomon's head.
Then, when love comes, the one who gave love will admit it is their own reality of death. Knowing and meeting love is when you open your eyes to the fact that it is love that led you to the king's residence, which should be on the seat of death. In the end, when love comes, the scent of love is death. Since it is love that comes with the scent of death, the person who will recognize love through this scent is the one who knows the reality of death. The love, the Substitute, who died on the cross, shedding His precious blood, makes us celebrate our wedding day with the very Groom, Jesus Christ!
